Color and NLP...

In my younger years I'd often be hired to speak about Nuero-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and it's place in advertising.  Not many are aware of what NLP is exactly but many have used it if only on a rudimentary level, and nearly everyone has encountered it.  Just try this simple example on a friend.  Look them in the eyes and say: Spell mop. Spell pop. Spell cop. Spell top. Now what do you do at a green light? BUT while giving the spelling words keep your hands out and near waist-level. Then once you ask the question, open your hands slightly (palms down) while raising arm height (very slightly mimicking the gesture we'd make to have someone slow down or stop).  Asking the question in combination with the psychologically invisible gesture will almost always yield the answer of STOP, which of course is an answer they'd not normally give if asked the question straight out.

So, why is this in a lighting blog?  Well we know that certain colors are warm, and others are cold.  Some colors can guide people to be more energetic while others may bring a sluggish feeling.  The combinations of colors are no different.  It has been suggested that the combination of red and yellow or maybe even red with white can incite hunger.  Now think about SO many fast-food franchises (McDonald's, Burger King, Checkers, Carl's Jr., etc.).  You see it isn't simply the combination of colors that is the goal, but the combination with the name. So when we think of say McDonald's, hopefully our bodies will feel hunger as well.  This is something tied to an idea called anchoring which is a whole of blog altogether.  Anyway, this is has been just some food for thought (MAN I stay fresh don't I?).
