Oooh, my final entry before I upload/post everything. So I
figured I’d go back to an old illusion.
When I first began card magic I learned about the “dirty card”. The concept is used to help the magician FIND
a card. This made me think of the opposite notion. What if I wanted a spectator
to believe they had a free choice of any card from a spread deck, but needed
them to pick one particular. Could I use the “dirty card” principles here?
Indeed, but rather than use a dirty card as the name implies, I decided to go
with a “clean card”. The idea is this:
people are attracted to brighter colors, so what if I could take some low grade
sand paper and sand off just a shade or two off the back of a card. To make it
JUST noticeable to pick but not so much to be able to discern how the trick was
done? Did it and it works nearly 100% of
the time. Aside from it working, no one has ever even noticed the difference in
intensity.
